Biology Genetics - Research Assistant

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to join the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at The John Innes Centre.?

The Oldroyd laboratory is seeking to appoint a research assistant to support the Engineering Nitrogen Symbiosis for Africa (ENSA) Project.

This project, which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, aims to test the feasibility of developing cereal crops capable of fixing nitrogen, as an environmentally-sustainable approach for resource-poor farmers in sub-Saharan Africa to increase maize yields.

In addition to general laboratory support, the post will involve generating libraries of cloned components from the symbiosis signalling pathway in cereals and legumes and creating multi-gene constructs using a Golden Gate cloning strategy. Following transformation into legumes and cereals the post will contribute to characterisation using a variety of molecular biology techniques including RNA-seq and analysis of protein phosphorylation.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a world leading lab in the field of symbiosis research and contribute to a project developing solutions to the sustainable development of agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa.

Salary on appointment will be within the range ?26,600 to ?27,800 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.? This is a 36 month post.
